Community Involvement

We value the good relations we have built with our local community and are proud to be seen as a good community partner.

Sponsorships & Donations

To support our local community and wider regional initiatives, we provide a variety of sponsorships and donations, totaling $500,000 each year. The areas that we focus on are education, the environment, healthy living, and culture. We are particularly proud that UUSA employees have been the largest contributor to local United Way organizations since 2008, giving over $2.3 million to the United Way of Lea County.

9/11 Day of Service Project

Every year, UUSA employees and contractors gather together to honor those who were impacted by the events of September 11 by working on home and community improvements in our hometown of Eunice. In addition, our employees volunteer more than 2,100 hours each year to support non-profit organizations.

Richie Enrichment Science Workshops

Our Richie’s Science Workshops have been presented to more than 20,000 local students over the past decade and are facilitated with the help of more than 150 employee volunteers each year. These workshops teach the scientific method and demonstrate the science behind the enrichment process through a number of interactive experiments. Students and teachers continue to provide positive feedback year after year.

Internships & Scholarships

To support our local communities further, we offer a summer internship program. These internships provide students with the opportunity to learn about the nuclear industry while working on projects that will enrich their knowledge in their field of study. The application period for the 2023 UUSA Summer Internship Program has closed.

In addition, UUSA provides five $1,000 scholarships each year to students who reside in either Lea County, NM, or Andrews County, TX. The scholarship provides a helping hand to current high school seniors or undergraduate students who are undertaking or will undertake two-year or four-year degree programs.

Deadline to apply is April 7, 2024
